Tiffany’s Story

"I was 16 when I found out I was pregnant and had my daughter at 17. Two months later my mom passed away. I had a million questions about how to care for my new baby. There are so many different ways to raise and care for a child all of which can be correct, but I wanted to know what options I had and I wanted to do what I felt was best for my child.

I started attending Parent Life, which was called Teen Parents of Lubbock back then, and I got answers to my questions. I was able to see different parenting styles with the other young moms and in what I was being taught and I was able to raise a healthy, smart, beautiful, baby girl who is now 6 and a great big sister to her brothers.

Without parent life I don't know where I would have gone with all my questions and concerns. Because of them I was able to make the best choices for my daughter and me. The mentors also helped me walk through a relationship I was in and helped me to move on from that relationship. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good for me in that stage of my life. I am now married to a wonderful man and we have 2 boys together in addition to my daughter.

The spiritual growth came later in my life, but in finding Christ I remembered my mentors from Parent Life who helped me get through some tough times and the advice they gave. Now several years later it was helping me grow closer to God.

I want to return the favor for the young girls who are 2015 versions of the 2008 me. I know how hard it can be to have no one and to need someone. I want to help young girls who feel that way. I want to offer myself as the someone they can come to. I know how important having a mentor mom can be spiritually, emotionally and physically. I know what its like to need someone. That's why several months ago, I became a mentor mom at Parent Life and I am so blessed to be doing exactly that!"
